The Kebbi State Police command arrested ten suspects allegedly involved in the sexual abuse of a 13 -year -old girl in Tungar Giwa, the area of the local government of Shangha of the State.
The incident, which occurred in February, involved multiple men who have taken a turn to sexually assault the child in several places.
The arrests followed a directive issued by the State Command on Wednesday, July 16 so that the Divisional Police officer in Shanga stopped and transfer the suspects to the state headquarters in Birnin Kebbi for greater investigation.
The case has generated a generalized conviction of residents and rights groups, and many require rapid prosecution of suspects.
The Kebbi State Technical Working Group on Gender Violence, TWG-GBV, led by the State’s First Lady, Zainab Nasare Idris, praised the police for their speedy action.
In a statement, the Secretary of TWG, Nasiru Idris, urged the authorities to guarantee impartial prosecution and warned against interference in the matter.
The group also asked the public to inform cases of abuse and avoid protecting perpetrators with any appearance.
