The Kano State Police command has arrested an 18 -year -old woman, Saudat Jibril, supposedly killing her husband, Salisu Idris, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident, which occurred in Farawa's rooms, supposedly involved the use of a sharp knife, with the victim suffering fatal injuries in the throat.
Police confirmed the incident in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon, stating that the suspect is now in custody and will face charges of guilty homicide.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 12:35 am of May 6, 2025.
The police statement added that the victim, Salisu Idris, 30, was urgently taken to the Aminu Kano teaching hospital after the attack, but was declared dead by medical staff.
“Upon receiving the report, the police commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, quickly deployed a detective team on the scene.
“The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command, Cid, Homicide Section,” said Police Public Relations officer, Sp Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement.
Kiyawa also declared that the investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be accused in the Court at the end of preliminary investigations.
The State Police Commissioner, while reacting to the incident, condemned the law and reiterated the resolution of the command to tighten all forms of crime.
“The command will not tolerate any form of violence or criminal behavior in the state of Kano. We are committed to ensure that justice is served, and we urge the public members to remain calm and cooperate with the investigators,” said the commissioner.
Meanwhile, the residents of Farawa Quarters, where the couple supposedly lived, expressed their shock for development, describing the incident as tragic and disturbing.
The reason behind the murder is still unknown as the police continue their investigation.
