The Commission of Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC, has assured the conviction of two individuals, Tobilola Olamide, popularly known as “umbination” and Babatunde Peter Olaitan, also known as “Tdollar”, for abusing the Nigerian currency.
Judge Alexander Owoeye, of the Federal Superior Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, sentenced the duo to six months in prison each, with the option of a fine of N200,000.
They were processed separately by charges of a counting that border the manipulation of Naira notes in violation of section 21 (1) of the Law of the Central Bank of 2007. Both declared themselves guilty of the charges.
According to the EFCC, the incident occurred on April 8, 2025, in a social event held at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi. The convicts were captured in Viral Videos of Tiktok that spray N200 notes while they danced, an act considered a criminal offense under Nigerian law.
During the hearing, the EFCC Ibrahim Bukar investigation officer told the court that the agency initiated a Tiktok -based intelligence investigation on April 10, which led to the identification and invitation of the suspects.
“Olaitan admitted having sprinkled La Naira in a nightclub after a fan gave him a pack of N200 notes,” Bukar said.
The Prosecutor's Office, directed by the CC Okezie and Hu Kofarnaisa accessories, presented video tests and the extrajudicial statements of the defendants, all of which were admitted by the court.
Judge Owoeye subsequently condemned the defendants and transmitted the sentence, warning that such acts undermine the integrity of the national currency.
