A Nigerian woman identified as Balaji Bolarinwa has been sentenced to 45 months in prison.
Bolarinwa was sentenced for forced labor and other crimes related to its coercive scheme to force two victims to perform domestic labor and care of children in their home in the United States (USA).
The sentence was approved against Bolarinwa by prosecutor Alina Haba and the Attorney General Harmet Dhillon of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, according to a statement from the United States Prosecutor's Office, New Jersey district.
The attached attorney general Harmet K. Dhillon, of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, declared that Bolarinwa exploited their relationship with the victims to attract them to the United States with false promises.
Dhillon added that the defendant confiscated the immigration documents of the victims and submitted them to threats, physical strength and mental abuse to force them to work long hours for a minimum wage.
Dhillon said the Prosecutor's Office should send a strong message that such forced labor will not be tolerated in American communities.
He added that the Department of Justice is committed to fully enforce the federal statutes of trafficking in persons to claim the rights of survivors and also hold the traffickers of persons for the shameful exploitation of vulnerable victims.
