More than 50 armed bandits attacked three communities of Kaiwa, Gebbeband Gelawa in Shanghai Local Government Area of Kebbi State and killed eight people.
According to a source, the attackers were on motorcycles, in large numbers, and launched the attack on innocent souls simultaneously.
He explained that some residents were able to flee to nearby bushes when they saw the bandits, but some were unable to escape.
He said: “We saw them enter our community and immediately people started running for safety, but some were not so lucky. They killed more than eight people and kidnapped an unspecified number of others.”
As shooting continued from all directions, he said panic spread among residents, forcing many of them to flee to neighboring villages and surrounding bushes.
He explained that the attack on Gebbe was unprecedented and said the community had not witnessed such attacks in recent years.
He said it is difficult to determine the exact number of victims from Sunday night’s attack, adding that many residents remained displaced.
Kebbi State Command police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman, confirming the incident, said security agencies had launched coordinated operations in the affected areas.
He confirmed that seven people were initially confirmed dead in Gebbe, Kaiwa and Gelawu, while more victims later died while receiving treatment.
