Police arrest nine for alleged murder of minors, driver and community leader in Edo

The Edo State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies have arrested nine suspects in connection with the alleged murder of two minors, a community chief and a driver in different parts of the state.

This was revealed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City.

Ikoedem said operatives of the Jattu Division arrested a 23-year-old man, Omokhudu Innocent, in connection with the alleged murder of two minors at Ayogwiri community in Etsako West Local Government Area of ​​the state.

He identified the deceased minors as Praise Aloye, 7 years old, and Oshone Ekhaesomhi, 6 years old.

According to her, the command received a report on August 31, 2026 about the death of the two children, which motivated the Jattu Division agents to mobilize to the scene.

He said that the operations discovered the lifeless bodies of the minors and added that their remains had been deposited in a morgue for preservation and later examination.

The police spokesperson said the case was currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

He also revealed the arrest of four suspects for the alleged murder of a community chief identified as Chief on Saturday in Ajife community, Ovia South West Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Daniel Babatunde, Abraham Mumini, David Michael and Godwin Moses, all from Ajife, were arrested by Maritime Police officers who were mobilized to the community on September 2, 2026.

Ikoedem said the suspects had been transferred to the Homicide Unit for further investigation.

The Command Image Maker further revealed the arrest of four more suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a driver in Aduwawa area of ​​Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

He identified the arrested suspects as Idugie Emmanuel, Odion Bondilum, Sunday Afeaya and Osazee Friday.

According to her, a minor car accident occurred at around 10:45 pm on September 2, 2026, in front of Drucicare Pharmacy, Aduwawa, Benin City.

He explained that after the accident an argument occurred between the drivers, after which Idugie Emmanuel allegedly called his friends to the scene.

“The friends arrived and attacked the other driver (name unknown), leaving him unconscious,” he said.

Ikoedem said the victim was rushed to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death.

He added that the remains of the deceased were deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The police spokesperson said efforts were being made to identify the deceased and contact his family, while the preliminary investigation into the incident continues.
